Eleven in Eleven: Update

via

Remember this post, when I set out my bucket list for 2011? I thought today would be a nice day for an update. Here’s a refresher of the original list, complete with updates on how I’m doing so far.

1. Cook a souffle. Successfully. I’m almost comfortable enough with how my oven works to attempt this. I think I’ll work up the nerves before the end of the year.
2. Go to the Opera and the ballet. We saw this when it came through New York last fall and it was AMAZING. The dancers were insanely athletic and the music from Swan Lake cannot be topped. If it’s ever in your area, you should go.
3. Take a trip somewhere I’ve never been. Check. And this afternoon, I’m jetting off to Austin – another place I’ve never been!
4. Learn to do something crafty, like knitting.
5. Write a 500th post for What Happens After Five. The chances aren’t looking good. I’m hovering around 250 now and with only 50 days left in the year (!) it probably won’t happen. Five posts a day seems like a lot.
6. Try a new food. Foie gras. And I loved it. We went a little foie gras crazy and had it three times in three weeks: here, here, and here.
7. Make a snow angel, for old times sake. Check.
8. Go to a Michelin starred restaurant. Check.
9. Stand on the Brooklyn Bridge and watch the sunrise. Sadly, this hasn’t happened. I’m holding out hope for my next visit to NYC but I’m not feeling optimistic. I did manage to be up early enough to see the sunrise over Lake Michigan though. I know – it doesn’t count.
10. Take a knife skills class. Went here as a present from my family for my birthday. Loved it so much I may be asking Santa to bring me something similar.
11. Do something that is so quintessentially New York that I’ll probably never be able to do it again. Does leaving count? If not, I’m sure there’s something else in here.

By my count, I have four and a half left to complete. Two of them probably won’t happen, so I may end the year with only 9 of 11 completed. And that’s okay with me – it’s better than nothing, right?

P.S. I’ll have one more update at the end of the year to see how I really kept up with everything.
