Ever since I moved to New York, my friends and I have made a tradition of celebrating Thanksgiving together before heading home for the holiday. It’s one of the fun little things we’ve done since leaving home, sort of a way of starting our own traditions elsewhere. Sadly, I took absolutely no pictures of this year’s meal, but I can at least share what was on the menu.
- Bacon-Wrapped Dates, Stuffed with Goat Cheese
- Pear, Endive and Walnut Salad
- Sage Rubbed Turkey
- Buttermilk Mashed Potatoes
- Butternut Squash and Caramelized Onion Gallette
- Pear Crisps with Vanilla Brown Butter
We spent all day in the kitchen, went through one too many bottles of wine, and capped the night off with a new episode of Dexter. All in all – a perfect day. And the best way to spend a Sunday before we all leave town for Thanksgiving. And in case you’re wondering – the runaway hit of the night was the butternut squash and caramelized onion gallette. It was everyone’s favorite and the only dish with no leftovers to speak of.

It sounds like you had a wonderful pre Thanksgiving meal. You can’t beat the Smitten Kitchen for a good recipe.
